For many Toronto Blue Jays fans, the last name Barfield brings back memories of the 1980’s when Lloyd Mosbey, George Bell and Jesse Barfield were patrolling the Blue Jays outfield. Jesse Barfield patrolled right field from 1981 to 1989 and was recognized for having one of the strongest outfield arms in the game.
Fourteen years after Jesse retired from the game, his son Josh made his major league debut with the San Diego Padres. Josh had a stellar rookie campaign in 2006 belting 13 home runs, swiping 21 bases while hitting a solid .280. After the 2006 season, Josh was traded to the Cleveland Indians where he played three more years at the big league level.
Currently, Josh is an advance scout with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
